The answer is probably ‘Yes’. A keyword rich domain does increase your search engine ranking. Hence, be careful what you call your domain - if it reflects what you are selling you will gain automatic visibility with the leading search engines.
It’s not enough to be No.1 on Google

Anybody who has had his web site on page 1 on Google for a competitive keyword like web design has reasons to celebrate. The key word ‘web design’ is indeed one of the most competitive key words online with Google displaying nearly 1 billion web pages. According to the Yahoo keyword selector tool, the key words web design is searched an average of 300,000 times a month. We could reasonably expect about 1000,000 searches for ‘web design’ a month on the 3 major search engines. One would think that being on the top of the first page of results is enough to take over the web design market. But is it enough to be on the top position?

Once you have a well-designed site that’s search engine friendly, you’re ready to get your content out there and draw traffic to it. Let’s talk about getting some incoming links and traffic. It used to be you could just go out and buy your incoming links. Didn’t matter who you bought them off of or what page of their site your link was on. Today, it’s much more complicated than that and requires some work on the client’s part.
